Treachery
Beach: Seal Rocks 2008
Celebrating
Bryan's Birthday
Driving
North for about 3 hours on the Pacific Highway from Sydney,
Treachery Beach camp ground is located some thirty minutes
from Bulahdelah heading towards Seal Rocks. It is hidden away
amongst the dunes about five minutes from the beach. For details
go Here.
First
let the
pictures tell the story:
|
Left: Noemi is working hard on her
on her nibblies; the only difference between daughter
and father is the milk bottle in the stubby holder
- than again maybe not!
Right: Lauren and Zoe practicing
smiles

|
|
Left: the basecamp at treachery
beach with treachery headland in the background and
a nice right-hander curling in the background. Needless
to say that we missed the Sydney crowds.
Right: Can you spot the child amongst
the grown ups? |

|
Left: At the central barbecue ares;
Nola surrounded by Zoe and Lauren with Roman looking
on nonchalantly.
Right: Uts working her magic when
Zoe's lips puffed up after putting on too much lipstick,
Lauren also got an ice cube. |

|
Left: Late night at the campfire,
Roman and Chris are the last surviving kids after a
long day, headtorches sparkling and eyes glazed over
- bedtime is not far off.
Right: Chris Junior in Boogie Board
Heaven at treachery beach |

|
Left: No need to go without style
in the wilderness - Nola is working hard while Lauren
checks her financial assets in the Wall street News.

The sand dune which has broken many
a dads back, to the delight of the sliding boys: Max
and Chris. |

Having
been there before in 2007 this was only our second camping
trip up North to Treachery beach. This time it was a special
occasion, so from Friday the 7 March to Monday the 10th; four
clans descended on the Treachery Beach Camp Ground at Seal
Rocks to commemorate Bryan's 45 birthday. Nola, the Fumeauxs,
Dagassans and Rosenbaums congregated in the "quiet",
"secluded" paper bark forest somewhere in the center
of the camp ground just beyond the great sand dune for some
tranquility and fun. After setting up ground zero around a
little fire place, the daily routine involved an elaborate
breakfast ritual where all families would meet at the central
barbecue hut and prepare scrumptious delights to be shared
amongst each other. This was followed by an exodus across
the massive sand dune which guarded the entrance to the nearby
Treachery beach. Trying to carry all our tools of trade from
boogie boards, surfboards to surfskies a beach tent and last
but not least trying not to loose any kids on the way was
a major tactical undertaking but once near the water things
took care of themselves. The only problem was to get past
the massive sand dune which guarded the beach without exhausting
your energy with carrying up boogie boards up and down for
hours on end to the delight of the children. Max, Luke, Lauren,
Zoe, Noemi, Chris and Roman headed straight for the waves
on their boogie boards. It was time for the big boys to bring
out their big toys and since the waves were gently everything
that could glide was taken to the water: Patrick's longboard,
Gary's surfski and Roman's short board all got a good work
out. One of the many highlights arrived when an enormous pod
of dolphins surrounding the surfers with their huge numbers.
Whereas previously we had done several short trips to nearby
Seal Rock Beach and the fantastic lighthouse, this year we
spend our days happily commuting back and forth from the camp
ground to the beach. The afternoons were spend in moments
of 'relative' tranquility at our base camp amongst the paper
park eucalyptus trees playing games with the kids and brewing
strong coffee.
Sunday
afternoon was the big event and all the children (Zoe, Noemi,
Luke, Lauren, Max, Roman, Chris) guided by Nola but together
a story book about the life and crimes of Bryan. Uts supplied
the delicious cake and everybody had chipped in to purchase
an IPOD for the birthday boy. A special thanks goes to Anne,
Will, Jules and Mat who could not be there but still chipped
in anyway. So the days lingered pleasantly in complete sunshine
only interrupted by the mandatory midnight cloud break. (
I promise I will through out my 20 year old dome tent with
the broken fiberglass poles - safely taped together - and
the flooding floor; perhaps next time). Before leaving we
had a quick look at the reclusive lighthouse cottage, looks
like we have to come back ......
