Saturday 3 November it was time to head to Phegan's Bay to check out this much talked about central coast climbing area. With some of the regulars as well as some of the locals showing us all the hiddden gems, the stage was set for a brilliant day climbing high above the Bay. I had talked about coming to Phegan's for a while now, but never actually managed to do, so this was Leo and Roman's first trip to Phegans. Let's just say that all the rumours were true, with some very fine lines with excellent views high above the beaches. Thanks go to Jason, Di, Mark and Will, who joined the locals Mat and Gordon to show us some of the best routes on the Central coast. Since this also doubled up as a training trip for Jason, Mark and Roman's New Zealand trip we spend a fair amount of time brushing our Prussiking skills and reviewing crevasse rescue pulley systems. Some of the highlights included:
Sharon Stone 15m 19***
Phoenix 15m 19***
Buggers 15m (Grade depends on your height and flexibility - Very thin crux move with only two 'buggers' to hang on to.)
Revisiting this page in 2024 seems like a blast from the past. Still fresh in my mind for a number of reasons. Mostly easy climbing but great company. Still climbing regularly with Di and Jason and sometimes with Leo. Mat has moved on and Gordon is retired but still around. Mark has moved to Perth and I just saw him recenlty - good memories all around - lets keep going.
