Berowra Climbing

9 July 2013

Berowra Cliffs

Berowra was like a trip down memory lane, the rock is still there - warm and softly glittering in the golden winter sunshine. The moves are still hard on The Ladder of Gloom and the mantel on Glamourpus still makes you ache like after a bout with a sumo wrestler. It must be well over ten years since I have been there last and on Sunday the 7 July 2013 we teamed up with the Central Coast Climbers for a record-breaking welcoming party for Jason. There must have been close to twenty people busy at every wall to welcome home Jason in one piece straight from the slopes of Denali. Well done and even though the suns rays were strong that day, arguable we were much stronger and many of the old classics were repeated more or less in style!

There was a slew of routes climed througout the day including at very least:

Pimple (20) - Scooped holds for start with natural crack finish
Look Blue Go Purple (18) - centre of the first 'new' wall
It's For You (18) right hand side of beautiful orange face at 'new' wall
Savage Cabbage (19) old school natural finger crack - tough as nails
Ladder of Gloom (19) crag classic - the hard move is still there.
Ladder of Death (22) direct dyno to ladder of gloom - still desperate.
Medium Strip (19/20) soaring arete after Ladder of gloom and Mantle Machine.
Dingo (24) Hard sport in Soapcave, short bouldery cave climb with narly dyno to finishing jug.
Glamorpus (24) Hardest mantle in Sydney with soaring jugs high above.
Zooloft (18) hard douple handle arete with gorgeous orange rock to crimpy finish.
Mental Fatigue (18) undercling heaven (or hell) with pockets galore
