29-30 December |
Sometimes our only available transportation is a leap of faith.
Thanks to all the parents and boys for a great adventure over the last Thursday to Friday of the year. We certainly went out with a big splash for sure. Just for the record the boys were very well behaved, save and had lots of fun. Thanks to Steve for helping out and also rescueing some guy who injured his back while jumping from the top of the cliff. Then a little bit of drama with resuce helicopters and we made the 6 o'clock news. Thanks to Fin, Harry and Luke for all the great jumps. Not bad for a days work!

Jumping and Climbing |
The distance between dream and reality is called action.
Thursday was mainly spend at the Dam Cliffs between Lithgow and Mount Victoria. Probably one of the best kept secret swimming holes, jumping rocks, swing and climbing areas in the Blue Mountains, it is also know as Dargan's Creek or Clarence Dam. The water is usually cold and very deep so jumping from the top of the cliff is a must do rite-of-passage for any future cliffdiver. We also discovered a giant swing which kept the boys accupied for most of the day.

One of the jumpers hurt his back and had to be resuced, which meant that the Dam had to be cleared for the helicopter resuce. This was a good opportunit to take the boys for a climb below the dam. The rescue took a little longer than anticipated so we went exploring furhter up the dam. Once the man was airlifted to Katoomba hospital we resumed our cliff jumps unbeturbed unti everyone got hungry.

Our plan was to check out the historical Imperial Hotel pub at Mount Victoria but to our suprise it was unexpectedly closed. No problem at all and we just had lunch at the historical Gardener's Inn instead. A few Chicken Parmigianas and lots of coca cola later and we were all ready for bed.
The next morning the boys where keen for the jumps again so we headed straight back to the Dam Cliffs for more record breaking jumps. This time we were lucky and basically had the place to ourselves. At lunch time we drove straight to the local backery in Blackheath and gorged ourselves on pies and brownies. There was still time for one more magic swimming hole. The Jellybean pool at Glenbrook provided yet another perfect jump rock with amazing water temperatures to escape the blazing heat.
